In 1994, citizens of Fredericksburg began to see a need for programs to serve the youth of the community. A youth center director to work with teens was hired in 1996, and the Fredericksburg Youth Center had a lease on a building by 1998. The youth center affiliated with the Boys & Girls Clubs of America in 2001.
A second location was added in Boerne in 2004, following a grant from the state of Texas Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention.
Comfort is the newest addition to the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Texas Hill Country. Their Club received its charter in 2008.
Since its beginnings and today, the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Texas Hill Country addresses the need for guidance and mentorship of youth. Studies conducted by the Boys & Girls Club of America show that youth drug and alcohol abuse, as well as premature sexual activity are actually more common in rural areas than in urban. The club has taken strong measures to further its mission of having a positive impact on youth and on their life choices. Knowing that the middle school years are a critical, at-risk time for all youth, the club has taken purposeful steps to focus on expanding and improving its offerings and programming for that group, to attract and retain membership through those key years.
